Craig Middle School is centrally located in the community of Craig at 915 Yampa Ave. The School, which was built in 1948, teaches about 340 students in the seventh and eighth grades. The campus includes two P.E. fields, a football field, baseball field, industrial arts classroom and shop. According to the most recent records, school staff consists of 26 teachers, a principal, a counselor, three secretaries, four teacher aides, and three custodians. The school's Academic Performance was rated as Average in the 2007-08 Colorado School Accountability Report. The school's staff of 48 includes 23 full-time and 4 part-time teachers. Student-to-teacher ratios are about 14 to 1. The School is equipped with up-to-date computer/audio/visual equipment and materials to complement the basic educational program, which stresses the improvement of basic learning skills. The School also features an Instructional Materials Center, which includes a computerized information search and checkout system, and materials for students and faculty members. The central core of the instructional program, according to the School, focuses on the basic subjects of English, reading, mathematics, social studies, physical education and science. Elective courses include art, home economics, chorus, band, speech and drama, teen topics, and computer classes. There is an interscholastic sports program for both boys and girls. Sports include football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cross country, soccer and track. The current pricipal, William Toovey, has been with the school since 2004.
